Passing of Putty
It is with great sadness that I report that Putty passed away on Labor Day – Monday, September 7, 2009. She was 13 years old – very unusual for an English bulldog to reach such an age. She was a sweetheart and will be sorely missed.

Mary and Katie at age 12

Mary B. Devine
April 30, 1932 - May 16, 2008

It is with great sadness that I inform you that Mary B. Devine passed away. I dedicated my first cookbook to her because she was my first culinary instructor and was a great family friend. Mary taught me how to make many recipes including Angle Food Cake with Chocolate Whipped Frosting, Eclairs and various types of cookies. I have fond memories of the times she fostered litters of kittens for the SPCA or when she made cut-out sugar cookies for my class when I was in elementary school. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

We are celebrating an important anniversary - 2 years ago this month (May 2006) "You're the Cook! A guide to mixing it up in the kitchen" was published. What have we been up to over the past two years....

Cooking Series at the Haverhill Public Library

The Haverhill Public Library in Haverhill, MA received a EqualAccess Libraries (TM) grant - given by the EqualAccess Libraries Institute: a program of Libraries for the Future and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners to conduct programs targeting 10 - 15 year olds that focus on health. I conducted 5 cooking classes, two of which were designed to introduce and test recipes for a future cookbook #2! The Haverhill Gazette ran a wonderful full page article about the program and the following are a few of the comments the students wrote about the class on a survey.

the cooking class was wonderful ~ very nice ~ the class was great ~

Hands-on Cooking Classes

Independent bookstore have been very supportive of Katie’s cookbook. Here she is at her second visit to The Alphabet Garden in Cheshire, CT where she conducted a hands-on cooking class. The students made several recipes from the cookbook!

Private Cooking Classes
In June 2005, Katie was back in Buffalo fulfilling her donated auction item — a private cooking party for 8 tweens — which raised funds for her alma mater — The Elmwood Franklin School. Cooking with Katie, Inc. just purchased a 31 foot Fleetwood Jamboree GT recreational vehicle (RV) also known as the Mo-Ho (Motor Home). Katie and the gang are hitting the road to spread the word about middle school students learning how to cook. In addition to being a culinary instructor, Katie is also the official driver of the RV. Driving a large RV gives you a new perspective on the road, i.e., low branches, 12 foot high bridges, and roads that cannot be traveled, including Storrow Drive. Keep your eye out for the MA license plate CKGWKT!!!

Katie is the proud owner of a Fleetwood 31 foot RV! The hope is to load the RV with her three English bulldogs and travel across the USA filming her TV show that will educate tweens about where food comes from and then teach them how to cook with it!

The Passing of "The Queen"
It is with great sadness that I share the news that my beloved Dudley passed away in April. She was my first dog and she taught me many life lessons. She was almost 8 years old. She is and always will be missed.

New Member of the Family
It is with great joy that I share with you the news of a new addition to our family. His name is Dozer and he is an 8-month-old bulldog puppy. He is such a cutie and a sweetheart! He has made the adjustment into his new life very well. Putty and Atticus have accepted him and both play with him. They have showed him the ropes including licking dishes in the dishwasher and going up and down the stairs.
