Katie was a Guest on NECN again!
On December 21, 2009, I was a guest on NECN’s Morning Report. I demonstrated how to make Chicken Noodle Soup and recommended using a vacuum seal product to freeze any leftover soup. While the segment was only a few minutes - it takes a lot of time to prepare to be on TV! These are some of the things I have to organize before making a TV appearance.
- Decide on recipe to demonstrate
- Make Make several batches of recipe so I can…
- Show the final product
- Show the different stages of the recipe
- Share recipe with staff at the station
- Layout all of the supplies, including a tablecloth, a stand with a copy of the cookbook, all needed utensils to demonstrate the recipe
- Practice - to make sure you have all of the needed supplies and utensils
- Pack up all of the above the night before
- The morning of the show - leave for the station allowing plenty of time in case there are traffic or inclement weather issues - you do not want to be late!!!
You can watch a video of the segment on the NECN website!

The Passing of Atticus Harley Berg Wilton Peterson
It is with great sadness that I share the news that Atticus passed away in December 2009. He was 12 ˝ years old and while he showed signs of aging, he was active and social until the end. He is missed - by many.
Katie Got Married! I am excited to
share the news that I got married to David Peterson on
September 26, 2009! We had an outdoor ceremony with perfect
weather at Maudslay State Park in Newburyport, MA and a
reception at 10 Center Street, also in Newburyport, MA. We
have moved to Topsfield, MA and I have changed my name to
Katie Peterson, but Cooking with Katie, Inc.’s contact
information is the same.

with great sadness that I report that Putty passed away on
Labor Day – Monday, September 7, 2009. She was 13 years old –
very unusual for an English bulldog to reach such an age. She

& techniques!

Mary B.
Devine April 30, 1932 - May 16, 2008
It is with great sadness that I inform you that Mary B.
Devine passed away. I dedicated my first cookbook to her
because she was my first culinary instructor and was a great
family friend. Mary taught me how to make many recipes
including Angle Food Cake with Chocolate Whipped Frosting,
Eclairs and various types of cookies. I have fond memories of
the times she fostered litters of kittens for the SPCA or when
she made cut-out sugar cookies for my class when I was in
elementary school. My thoughts and prayers are with her
family.

Cooking Series at the Haverhill Public

The Haverhill Public Library in Haverhill, MA received a
EqualAccess Libraries (TM) grant - given by the EqualAccess
Libraries Institute: a program of Libraries for the Future and
the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners to conduct
programs targeting 10 - 15 year olds that focus on health. I
conducted 5 cooking classes, two of which were designed to
introduce and test recipes for a future cookbook #2! The
Haverhill Gazette ran a wonderful full page article about
the program and the following are a few of the comments the
students wrote about the class on a survey.
