Library Cooking Program
Dear Libraries:

Have you been looking for a fun and educational program for students ages 9 - 14?

I am a cookbook author who published a cookbook specifically designed for this age group called You're the Cook! A guide to mixing it up in the kitchen and over the past year I have been traveling to various libraries with a hands-on cooking program (no kitchen required!) which has received rave reviews! I would like to offer this program to your library and am scheduling classes for winter and spring. Here is a description of the program:

Tween Cooking Class

Katie Wilton

Join Katie for a hands-on cooking class where students will make recipes from her cookbook "You're the Cook!" including Deviled Eggs, Pizza Wontons, Parmesan Pita Triangles, Yogurt Fruit Shakes and Cream Cheese Filled Strawberries. Participants will sample all of the food and will have the opportunity to purchase a signed copy of her cookbook.

Feel free to check out my website www.cookingwithkatie.com to learn more about my mission to teach middle school students how to cook.

Scheduling Program
The cooking class is 11/2 hours. Katie is available during the week after school, on weekends or on holidays or on early release days. It is recommended that you speak with a few students about sport and music practice schedules to choose the best date and time for the program.

What Librarians are saying about Katie's Tween Cooking Program

"Katie came and held three two-class workshops at our library this spring for our tweens. All of the kids who attended raved about the programs, wanting additional classes. Even parents told me how excited their child was about the workshops. Katie's high enthusiasm and energy really got the kids attention and made them excited about cooking. The kids were having so much fun that some of them didn't want to leave! There was even a young boy who was fighting with his parents because he wanted to come to the second cooking class instead of his baseball game. Her program was a huge success and was so easy for the library to offer that I would have her back again in a heartbeat."

"Katie's enthusiasm is obvious and truly contagious. Parents couldn't believe how engaged and excited their kids were. The program was well organized to provide just the right combination of education and fun. We would have her back in a heartbeat."

"We've invited 'Cooking with Katie' a half dozen times to the Flint Public Library, and we always have to develop a waiting list for the sign-up sheet -- this from a 9-14 year old group who don't like to plan anything in advance! But kids love to learn techniques from Katie; they love that her program is totally hands-on and that their new knowledge can be applied as soon as that night in the family kitchen!"

Katie Wilton hosted 2 cooking sessions at the Topsfield Town Library December 2006 and both were filled to capacity. I observed and tasted at both sessions and the kids were very clearly immersed into the cooking and eating!!!! Katie is very organized and explains things in a logical order. The kids produced many different snacks that they were proud to offer to the library staff. Some parents even said that they were buying Katie's cookbook for their children for Christmas. We tried to book Katie again for a summer program but she was already booked so we'll try again in the fall. I highly recommend her program because all of the children felt they could actually make something to eat!
